Field Day is one of those days students talk about all year long. It’s a huge highlight of the school year, thoughtfully planned by Mrs. Maxwell, our amazing PE teacher. From parachute games and relay races to jump ropes, giant blocks, and LEGO building stations, there was something for everyone to enjoy. It was wonderful to see kids unplug and simply play together. These are the moments they’ll remember. This is childhood.

🐣 Meet the Flock! 🐣 The fifth graders in Mrs. Pelletier’s class are proud to announce the hatching of the ducklings! The ducklings are all doing very well and growing quickly each day. They have all been named and are slowly beginning to show off their unique personalities. Students have been inviting classrooms to come visit and meet the newly hatched ducklings, sharing their excitement and learning with the entire school community. Some students have even been taking the ducklings home for special weekend “sleepovers.” This beloved springtime tradition continues to be a favorite at Northeast School, bringing joy and responsibility to students and staff alike.

The Teacher of the Year Committee is pleased to announce that Kelly Stein has been named the Vernon Public Schools 2025–2026 Teacher of the Year!

Kelly is a patient, flexible, innovative, and empathetic teacher whose passion for music is evident in everything she does. She believes that music is for everyone and has developed resources to support her diverse group of students across all five elementary schools. Kelly has an exceptional ability to motivate and inspire students to do their best, even when faced with challenges. She is constantly learning, creating new ways to engage students, and designing lessons that are both challenging and supportive so all students can reach their full potential.

In addition, Kelly works tirelessly to ensure the band program is accessible to all students by maintaining the school’s inventory of instruments so financial circumstances never become a barrier to participation. Her dedication, positivity, and commitment to equity make her an outstanding educator and an excellent representative of our district.

Please join us in congratulating Kelly on this well-deserved honor!

This past Wednesday, the Department of Family, School & Community Partnerships proudly hosted our annual Ready, Set, Fair! It was an incredible event filled with excitement, connection, and community as we welcomed incoming students and families for the upcoming school year.

We truly enjoyed meeting so many amazing families, sharing resources, answering questions, and helping students feel prepared and excited for their next chapter. Events like these remind us of the importance of strong family and community partnerships in supporting student success.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the event such a success. We are already looking forward to next year’s Ready, Set, Fair! 🎉📚✨

Dear Vernon Families,

On Monday, the Vernon Board of Education approved Michael Savignano as the new Principal at Lake Street School, effective July 1, 2026. He replaces Tracy Duenzl, who is retiring after 13 years as Principal at LSS. Mike was the Assistant Principal at Vernon Center Middle School for the past 4 years. Prior to that, he was the Instructional Coach at VCMS and taught in Vernon since August 2006 as a Language Arts Teacher and Department Facilitator. Mike has extensive experience with English Language Arts (ELA) Curriculum Development, Master Scheduling & Course Offerings, and Positive School Climate Practices. He received his Sixth Year Degree in Educational Leadership from the Central CT State University, his Master’s degree in Education and his Bachelor’s Degree in English, both from the University of Connecticut. Please join me in welcoming Mike to the Principalship in Vernon. Thank you for your continued support during this transitional period.
