Lake Street School is participating in the third annual Bryan Flint Memorial Socktober Collection. This project collects NEW socks and undergarments of any size to be distributed at local shelters, clothing banks, and outreach programs. Each night in the US almost 600,000 people live on the streets. These items are needed by many and often not donated. Therefore, we at LSS are looking for families to donate NEW socks and undergarments of any size! We will be collecting these items ALL of October. A large donation box will be in the hallway by the main office.

This week, Vernon cafeterias celebrated Connecticut Grown for Connecticut Kids week! Schools offered fresh apples from Karabin Farms in Southington, delicata squash from Cloverleigh Farm in Columbia, and roasted potatoes from Cold Spring Farm in Colchester. The Food & Nutrition Services Department has been growing their Farm to School program since 2020 to empower students to develop healthy eating habits and increase the students’ connection to the land, their environment, and their community.

Yesterday, First and Second Graders got to visit with the Vernon fire department! They got the opportunity to sit and learn about fire safety, explore a firefighter in all of their protective equipment, and visit the fire truck! They learned a lot and had a fun time doing it! Thank you Vernon Fire Department for visiting us!
