A message from the Vernon Police Chief:
Dear Vernon Families,
The safety and security of our schools and staff is our top priority in Vernon. Between Monday, September 9th and Friday, September 19th, the Vernon Police Department will be conducting "Active Threat" training at Northeast School (69 East Street). The training will be occurring after school hours and will last until approximately 9:00 PM each day. Passersby may see numerous police vehicles and uniformed officers at the school. There will be signage outside, indicating there is training occurring as well. As this is scenario-based training, families and other members of the public are asked to remain away from the building while training is occurring.
Thank you for your consideration and support to keep our children and teachers safe at all times.

We kicked off the school year with a local, seasonal focus!
We’re excited to share that our Food & Nutrition Services program is serving up fresh cherry tomatoes, peppers, and juicy watermelons grown at Cloverleigh Farm in Columbia, CT! Supporting local farms means fresher meals for our students.

It was back to school today for Vernon Public Schools students!
Superintendent Dr. Joseph P. Macary and Assistant Superintendent Robert Testa made their traditional tour of the elementary schools this morning to welcome kindergarteners to school and to give each of them a pencil. Dr. Macary and Mr. Testa also visited and welcomed new teachers.
“The first day of school is always a great day,” Dr. Macary said. “Everybody is excited and enthusiastic for the new year.”
The first day visits to schools also gives Dr. Macary and Mr. Testa a chance to consult with principals about any issues that crop up.
Students and teachers got to work quickly. Kindergarteners first learned about the school day, cafeteria time, bathroom time and met classmates. And then it was time for reading and other activities.
