Dear Vernon Families,

Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year. The first day of classes for all Vernon Public School students will be on Thursday, August 28, 2025. (Half- Day Pre-Kindergarten classes will start on Tuesday, September 2nd). We all are looking forward to a great year as our schools are filled with students who are excited to learn. Personally, I think the first day of school is the best day of the year. 😊

The 2025-2026 Bus Transportation Routes for all Vernon Public Schools are now posted on the district website at www.vernonpublicschools.org. Please visit our web page. On the top of the home page under “District Information”, click “Transportation” for all established bus routes by school. You can also click this link: https://www.vernonpublicschools.org/district-information/transportation

On Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 5PM to 8PM, the Superintendent’s Office will hold an Open House for all parents/guardians and community members. Anyone who is interested may come to the Central Office (located at 30 Park Street in Vernon) during that time to discuss individual student issues, educational initiatives, and the direction of the Vernon Public Schools. The Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent will be on hand to answer parental questions or discuss educational issues with the community. Appointments are not necessary.

This is a great school district and ‘Together, Students Learn, Achieve and Succeed’. To this end, we need students to be in school and classrooms a majority of the time for us to fulfill our mission and vision. Last year, 13.5% of our students (that is over 425 children) were chronically absent – meaning they were absent over 18 days out of 182. That negatively impacts learning and it not what is best for our children. Our goal is to have students attend school at least 95% of the time. Parents & Families are the primary source for student attendance as they rely on you for support to get to school. This year, the attached Administrative Regulations for BOE Policy 6153 (Field Trips) will be implemented on the first day of school – any student deemed ‘chronically absent’ will not be allowed to participate in extra-curricular activities like field trips. Please review the Board Policy #6153 and the administrative regulation carefully.

Thank you very much for your continued support of the Vernon Public Schools. Attached is the 2025-2026 school year calendar for your review. We all look forward to seeing our students back in school on Thursday, August 28th. Enjoy the rest of the summer and have a great school year!

We’re celebrating the fresh, fun flavors!

This summer, our meals featured new items with fresh, local produce from our farm partners, including cucumbers, lettuce, and cherry tomatoes from Cloverleigh Farm and blueberries from Dzen Farms. Plus, our taste tests of scratch-made, whole-grain tomato focaccia bread and chocolate chip muffins were a hit.

We’re proud to serve meals that help keep kids nourished, energized, and ready for summer fun and learning.
