We’ve received a Healthy Meals Incentives (HMI) Recognition Award from Action for Healthy Kids and USDA for our innovative strategies that provide nutritious school meals. This award highlights our Food & Nutrition Services Department’s commitment to scratch cooking, with items like our homemade granola, sofrito, and chicken enchiladas. Vernon cafeterias have been receiving beautiful, fresh, sweet peppers from Cloverleigh Farm every week. These peppers are available in all schools on the serving line at lunch. We are also roasting these peppers and sampling roasted pepper hummus at a few schools this week! Roasted pepper hummus will be on the lunch menu in October during CT Grown for CT Kids week. The Food & Nutrition Services Department is working to empower students and staff to cultivate healthy eating habits by integrating locally-sourced foods and recipes into both classroom education and the school meal program.
