The teachers and staff at Northeast School had a different kind of staff meeting today and it was all about fun, collaboration, and a little 70’s nostalgia! Working in teams, staff members tackled a breakout box challenge, using clues and problem solving skills to open a series of locks. The goal? Break out of the box…and the staff meeting 😉 The breakout boxes were put together by the students at Rockville High School, who definitely tried their best to stump the teachers! With some creative thinking (and a very strong incentive to escape), everyone solved the puzzles, cracked the codes and had a groovy time doing it. It was a great reminder that the same teamwork, curiosity, and out-of-the-breakout-box thinking we encourage in students is present among our staff too.

Today marked the halfway point of the school year! NES Teachers celebrated completing 91 days of school, with 91 more to go before the end of the year. Staff designed creative shirts showing different ways to represent “half,” and students had a great time trying to decipher each one. It was a fun, engaging way to celebrate being halfway there!

✨ A Blast from the Past at Northeast School! ✨ In 1976, as our country proudly celebrated its 200th birthday, Vernon Public Schools marked the occasion in a truly unforgettable way. All of the elementary schools gathered for a special ceremony that captured the spirit, pride, and optimism of the Bicentennial. That day, a giant time capsule was carefully lowered into the ground, filled with mementos chosen by the children and teachers of the time…and now, 50 years later, we are getting ready to unearth it! Rumor has it that inside the capsule are pencils from Sharkey’s, the beloved pizza place in Vernon Circle, and even a Fonzie T-shirt, from Mr. Rivard’s class, a tribute to their favorite TV show, Happy Days. Teachers who helped create this moment in history included Mrs. Miller, Mr. Huddock, Mrs. Desoto, and Ms. Peterson, among others who made Northeast School such a special place during that era. As we plan this exciting celebration, we can’t help but wonder what other treasures are waiting below? What memories did students choose to preserve for the future? Be sure to check out the photos showing the crane lowering the time capsule, packed with hopes, memories, and pieces of 1976. Were you there? Do you remember the ceremony or what your class contributed? We would love to hear your stories. Please comment below and help us piece together this incredible moment in Vernon’s history! More details about when we will dig up the time capsule coming soon!

Our Northeast School Roaring Robotics Team had an exciting day at the First Lego League East of the River Tournament! They competed against 21 teams and shared their innovation project, robot design, coding skills, and gracious professionalism. While they didn’t bring home an award this time, they gained valuable knowledge about archaeology, especially bronze disease, improved their coding skills, and strengthened their teamwork. Mrs. Champagne and Mrs. Morrow are very proud of all their hard work and dedication! A special thankyou to Mrs. Champagne and Mrs. Morrow for their continued effort and leadership on this journey. We love our Roaring Robotics Team! 🤖❤️ #NortheastPride 🦁

🚌✨ Our Northeast 5th graders stepped back in time on their field trip to Sturbridge Village! They experienced life from years gone by. They tried carding wool, churning butter, and even sitting in an old-fashioned schoolhouse desk. Students couldn’t help but notice how different life was then compared to today. They learned so much by experiencing history hands-on! 🕰️📚 #NortheastPride 🦁
