Second graders recently invited their families to a special poetry celebration, where they proudly shared the projects they have been working on in class. Visitors enjoyed reading a variety of poems, including haikus and acrostics that showcased each student’s unique voice. A big congratulations to our young poets for their creativity and hard work! 🎉📝 #NortheastPride 🦁
🎒Today’s Spirit Day was Anything But a Backpack, and our students did not disappoint! The creativity was incredible. We saw school supplies carried in boxes, doll strollers, fishing nets, laundry baskets, and even a dresser drawer! The laughs, smiles, and imaginative ideas made for a memorable day. 🎒 #northeastpride 🦁
Field Day is one of those days students talk about all year long. It’s a huge highlight of the school year, thoughtfully planned by Mrs. Maxwell, our amazing PE teacher. From parachute games and relay races to jump ropes, giant blocks, and LEGO building stations, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
It was wonderful to see kids unplug and simply play together. These are the moments they’ll remember. This is childhood.

The fifth graders in Mrs. Pelletier’s class are proud to announce the hatching of the ducklings! The ducklings are all doing very well and growing quickly each day. They have all been named and are slowly beginning to show off their unique personalities.
Students have been inviting classrooms to come visit and meet the newly hatched ducklings, sharing their excitement and learning with the entire school community. Some students have even been taking the ducklings home for special weekend “sleepovers.”
This beloved springtime tradition continues to be a favorite at Northeast School, bringing joy and responsibility to students and staff alike.
Rainy days can still be full of discovery! Today it was second grade’s turn for a field trip as they headed to the Connecticut Science Center for immersive STEM experiences and hands-on learning. It was a great day of exploring science!
We are happy to share that the NES time capsule that was buried in 1976 was officially located and the Department of Public Works (DPW) has removed it from the ground. It is located by the garden bed near the East Street doors. The District is currently working with DPW on the next steps for opening the capsule. Once we have a clearer timeline, we hope to coordinate an in school event for staff and students and an afterschool event for families and the community to celebrate and showcase this piece of NES history. We will share additional details as plans develop.
It’s field trip season! Today our kindergarten classes had an exciting visit to the Vernon Fire Department, Police Department, ambulance services. Students learned about emergencies, safety, and the important role first responders play in helping our community every day. Thank you to everyone who welcomed our students and made this a fun and educational experience!
First Graders had a fantastic day at Hill-Stead Museum! Students learned that it was once the home of the Pope family and explored rooms filled with artwork and history. They also spent time in the gardens where students sat and drew pictures of what they saw.
Word work in action! 🧩✨ Building, blending, and mastering new words one tile at a time. These students are strengthening reading and spelling skills through play! Word games like these, help students strengthen reading and spelling by encouraging them to recognize letter patterns, blend sounds, and build words strategically.

They’re diving into The Wild Robot, and they don’t just love the story! These students love the group work, the thoughtful discussions, and even getting to hang out with their teacher before the school day begins. The excitement is real!
Our 5th Graders celebrated The Olympic Opening Ceremonies by hosting their own Winter Games! The day kicked off with teams meeting in their dens, where they created a team handshake and cheer to get hyped for competition. From there, teams rotated through a variety of Olympic inspired events, both literal and figurative!
Teachers did an amazing job creatively recreating Winter Olympic events to make them school appropriate and doable inside the gym and classrooms. Look through the pics and see if you can identify and name the Olympic events!
The day wrapped up with a Closing Ceremonies celebration, recognizing teamwork, effort, and fun had by all. 🏆 Red Breezers took the gold! 🥇

We celebrated the 100th Day of School in the most wise way possible! Ms. Harrison and her class dressed up as 100-year-olds, complete with wigs, canes, glasses, mustaches, and lots of gray hair.
Students spent the day doing activities all about 100: counting, sorting, collecting, and showing off just how much they’ve learned in 100 days. So much laughter, learning, and fun packed into one very special day! 💯✨

Mrs Champagne’s Kindergarteners have spent weeks learning about non-fiction books and researching different animals. On Thursday they presented their animal research posters to each other to a round of applause for all the new fun facts and information they have learned. Bravo Kindergartners! #NortheastPride 🦁
Mrs. Meyers’ class found a fun and energetic way to practice their spelling words! 🎶✏️ Musical Chairs with a spelling word twist! When the music stopped, students rushed to write a spelling word right on the table. Don’t worry…dry erase markers wiped right off, but those spelling words and first grade fun are sure to stick forever in their memory! #NortheastPride 🦁
