Core Beliefs of the VCMS World Languages Department–(Adopted  9/17/25)

1. Language is a Bridge to Connection.
   We believe that learning another language opens doors to understanding, empathy, and meaningful relationships across cultures.
   
   

2. All Students Can Achieve Proficiency.
   We believe every student is capable of developing communicative skills in another language with the right support, practice, and encouragement.
   
   

3. Communication is at the Heart of Language Learning.
   We believe students should use the target language in authentic, purposeful ways to express themselves and understand others.
   
   

4. Culture and Language are Inseparable.
   We believe that exploring the diverse practices, products, and perspectives of world cultures deepens global awareness and prepares students for participation in a multilingual world.
   
   

5. Joy and Curiosity Drive Learning.
   We believe world language classrooms should inspire curiosity, foster creativity, and cultivate a lifelong love of languages and cultures.
