Today’s lunch featuring corn on the cob is extra special! Fifth graders had a hands-on lesson in local agriculture by participating in an energetic corn shucking relay race! They helped prepare fresh ears of corn from Colchester’s Cold Spring Farm which will be enjoyed with lunch. This activity was part of the district’s amazing Farm to School program.

SRS Student Council is hosting a Towel Drive to benefit The Cornerstone Foundation! The Drive takes place from April 20th to Friday, May 1st.
Second Graders shared their dream jobs with families and peers! Students combined their learning of community helpers with their opinion writing skills in order to create presentations on their dream jobs!
SRS celebrated the many cultures that make up our community! Thank you to all of those who participated and experienced our Multicultural Night! We had a great time sharing traditions, music, dance, food, and fun facts!
Second graders had a great field trip to the Hill-Stead Museum! They learned all about architecture and the museum founder, Theodate Pope Riddle. Students were even able to design their own dream houses!
SRS welcomed many wonderful guest readers from our community to celebrate Read Across America Week! Thank you to all those who joined our classrooms and shared with students!
On January 12th, the SRS Student Council attended the annual Elementary Student Leadership Conference hosted by the Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS). This conference provides students in grades 4–6 with a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills, including creative problem-solving, communication, decision-making, and productive thinking. It was a fun and engaging day filled with meaningful learning opportunities.
Help keep our community warm this winter! SRS is collecting new or gently used hats and mittens to donate to The Cornerstone Foundation!

SRS' Robotics Team competed in the First Lego League East of the River Tournament where they received the Innovation Project Runner-Up Award. They then competed in the the next round of the tournament. SRS students demonstrated great teamwork! We're so proud of them!

SRS honored veterans near and far on Veteran's Day this year! We had veterans visit classrooms to share their stories. Second graders zoomed with soldiers serving in Hawaii and Germany. We read books and enjoyed a slideshow of the veterans in our school community. Thank you to the men and women who served and continue to serve our community!
Conneticut Elementary Principal of the Year, Bryan Kerachsky, was honored at the Conneticut Association of Schools' Celebration of School Leadership NIght! This is an incredible achievement. Vernon's Skinner Road School is so lucky to have Mr. K as the leader of their community!
Skinner Road School's Book Character Parade is taking place on Friday, October 31st at 2:30pm! Join in on our love of reading by watching our Book Characters parade around the school!
