Music

The music room at Skinner Road School is a place where students sing, dance, play classroom instruments, compose, and notate music. All students in grades K-5 attend music class for 40 minutes every third school day, as part of a three-day rotation with P.E. and art. Pre-K students have 20 minute classes. In a typical music lesson, students will work on solfege skills (singing), rhythm skills, and movement to music. Music material is primarily drawn from American folk music, as well as songs from a wide variety of countries from around the world. Recorder is introduced in fourth grade in preparation for learning a band instrument, which is an option for students in fifth grade. Instrumental music is taught my Mrs. Stein, who is at Skinner Road on Mondays.
