Parent Letter

Dear Rockville High School Parents/Guardians:

The RHS School Program is designed to be a positive experience for everyone. The extension of the school curriculum into the summer months provides the time and school facilities to resident students who need and desire additional school work.

Please review the following information prior to enrolling your student in our program.

Summer school will be a blended learning program. Students will be using Edgenuity, an online learning platform. This program allows students to gain mastery in the Common Core standards in which they are deficient. Therefore, the focus is no longer on “seat-time,” but on content competency. There will be a 30 minute presentation about Edgenuity for the students at 8:00 a.m. on the first day of summer school, June 24th, that parents are encouraged to attend.

There is a minimum grade requirement of 60% set in order to take a summer school class. If a student has failed a course but earned a 60% or better, they can elect to take summer school to regain the credit and demonstrate competency in the content area. To show competency in a subject area, students must pass the online exams and quizzes with a 70% to move forward to the next lesson. All quizzes/tests will be taken during summer school hours.

Program Information

ADMISSION:

Rockville High School (RHS) Students:

Non-graduating seniors who failed a course have first priority for registration. Rockville High School administration reserves the right to limit overall program registration.

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT:

Attendance will be monitored closely by the summer school teacher(s) and coordinator. Unless students are given permission by their summer school administrator, all students are expected to attend all scheduled summer school dates. Students cannot have more than 4 absences during summer school or they will not receive credit.

If a student finishes early, they are not required to attend the remaining dates.

Edgenuity progress reports will be emailed to parents on a daily basis. Parents should check their email on a regular basis so that they are aware of their son/daughter’s current progress.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

Students are required to complete all online course materials to gain credit. All students will be required to obtain at least an 70% on every assessment in an Edgenuity lesson in order to obtain credit for the course.

All students will be required to attend. See Attendance policy above regarding absences.

Rockville High School has semesterised courses. If a student is registered for second semester of a course, he/she will be able to begin on Day 1 of summer school.

By July 10th, students who are not at the halfway point in the content of their course will be recommended to administration for possible discharge from the summer school program. A parent meeting with the teacher and an administrator will take place to determine the right course of action. There will not be a refund for students who are discharged from the Rockville High School Summer School program.

OTHER:

Students must arrange their own transportation.

The discipline and school dress codes for summer school are the same as those in place during the regular school year. Violation of the discipline code may result in automatic dismissal from summer school. Cell phones and electronic devices may not be used during instruction time.

Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope in order for your grade(s) to be mailed to you.

All visitors must sign into the Main Office and receive a visitor’s pass before entering RHS.

ANY OUTSTANDING FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS TO ROCKVILLE HIGH SCHOOL MUST BE MET PRIOR TO REGISTERING FOR SUMMER SCHOOL.

Cost

1 Credit $200 per course.

1/2 Credit $100 per course.

All fees are payable at the time of registration using CASH or MONEY ORDER ONLY. No personal checks accepted. See administration for pricing if you have free or reduced lunch at RHS.
