First Grade

First grade is a year when your child will build independent strategies for reading, math, writing, and social skills. Your first grader will learn how to enjoy reading using the strategies of decoding, comprehension, and fluency. During math, your child will learn and apply foundational skills that will be built upon in each consecutive school year. These skills will be incorporated into real-world situations. Your first grade writer will use new tools and strategies to write narrative, expository, and persuasive pieces of writing. With explicit training and modeling of the Positive Behavioral Intervention Support (PBIS) system, first graders will build socialization skills that will carry them through school and life experiences. First grade is a huge year of growth for your child!
