PTO Update 3/5/2024
Agata Cavar

Hello NES Families!

Wow!! Friday night's Multicultural Nighand Pot Luck was an absolutely amazing celebration!  More than a hundred NES students, staff and family members shared their cultures and enjoyed time together.  There were so many tasty dishes, it was a challenge to fit them all on the buffet tables!  Students waited patiently as volunteers from Rockville High School decorated their hands with beautiful henna art and admired display items from countries across the world. They competed in a fun and competitive game of Kahoot and watched a varied program which included sound healing, a dragon dance, NES merengue dancers (including a flash mob of 2nd graders!), Irish Step dancers and wise closing words by a second grader in his native language, and then in translation.

A HUGE thank you to all the families who turned the dream of this event into a vibrant reality!  Thanks to those who brought food and to those who displayed cultural items.  Thanks to the RHS volunteers who worked out front and behind the scenes to make things run smoothly.  Thanks to the NES student performers and to all the other performers, as well.  Thank you to NES teachers and staff who worked with performers, helped at the food tables and made students and families feel welcome.  Thank you to Asifa Ali who suggested the idea of a multicultural event in 2020.  It was sidelined due to Covid for a few years, but it was well worth the wait!  Thank you to Mrs. Cavar for applying her years of experience planning multicultural events and for sharing her confidence; she promised families would come and it would be an amazing event - and she was absolutely right!  Thank you to PTO president, Amanda Ruttenbergo-Hakian - who does everything from making beautiful flyers to finding the best deals on supplies for events, to leading the set-up crew, being everywhere at once and being the last one out to leave.  Thank you to all of you in the NES community - our school is truly a wonderful and magical place for students and their families to learn and grow!  Please enjoy the attached pictures and visit the NES PTO webpage for more!
