SBAC Testing is Here

State testing season is upon us.  Maple Street 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will be taking the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBAC) for reading and mathematics.

You play an important part in helping students give their best performance on this important test.

Here are a few important guidelines to help your child accomplish this:

· Unless your child is ill, please be sure that your child is at school and on time. We will begin testing first thing in the morning and late arrivals will not be allowed to enter the classroom once testing has begun. Please schedule all medical or dental appointments outside of school hours.

· Please be sure that your child is well rested. Tired children cannot function at their full capacity. Please set an early bedtime for your child and allow them a good night’s sleep.

· Breakfast is essential. Breakfast is the fuel to get your child going in the morning. Breakfast is served at MSS from 7:55-8:15.

· Limit stress by reassuring and reminding your child that he or she is well prepared for the SBAC. Cheer your child on with comments such as “You can do it!” “Try your best!”

We are so proud of all the learning that our students have accomplished all year.  We have confidence that our students are going to do amazing on this assessment.  When testing is complete, students our going to experiment and make slime to celebrate all their hard work and effort.

Thank You

Thank you to all the families who completed our Family Partnership Climate Survey.  We reached our goal and had 117 families respond.  We will now use your feedback to help drive our school improvement plan for the 2019-2020 school year.

Vernon Summer Learning

The Vernon Public Schools are once again offering all students the opportunity to attend summer learning and enrichment classes at Center Road School.

1. The Summer Learning Program is now offered to all students in grades K-8th.

2. The program is runs June 24th – July 25th.

3. The program runs four days a week (Monday – Thursday) from 8:00-11:30.

4. Students will be able to select two different courses to attend during the day.

5. The registration fee will cover all 5 weeks of the Vernon Summer Learning Program.

6. Transportation is available for all students at set locations around Vernon (please see Bus Routes for all the stops). In addition, we can drop off students at Valley Falls, YMCA, or Henry Park so students can participate in summer camps after our program is over.

As always, all of the classes are designed and taught by certified teachers, and are intended to challenge students through hands-on learning and positive interactions. To insure a positive experience for all the students, we are keeping the class sizes small so each child can receive individualized instruction from the teacher. Due to this, we will be filling classes on a first come first serve basis, so please turn in your completed forms to your home school as quickly as possible.

Registration forms are available either on-line or at your child’s school upon request. The Vernon Summer Learning Program costs $175 per child for all 5 weeks. A list of course offering can be found on-line. Once you are on the website select District Programs, then select Vernon Summer Learning (K-8), and then select registration forms and brochures that you need. From there you will see the different selections for the Discovery Program based on the grade your child is currently in. If you don’t have access to the internet, you can obtain paper copies from your child’s school.
