Reading Intervention

The reading team at Lake Street School provides support for students in Grades K-5. We work with students in small groups in the classroom and in the Reading Room. We focus on the five components of reading (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension) as recommended by the National Reading Panel. To do this, we use a variety of assessment tools to gain a better understanding of each child and tailor our instruction to meet their individual needs. We provide explicit, systematic instruction using a variety of strategies and materials. In addition to working with students, we also collaborate with classroom teachers to support implementation of the literacy curriculum. Our goal is to enhance each student’s literacy skills, and promote a lifelong appreciation of reading and writing.
