Screening Dates

 VERNON  PRESCHOOL SCREENINGS
2023-2024

All public-school systems in Connecticut are responsible for the identification of all children who may be eligible to receive special education services three years of age or older as part of Child Find. The Vernon Public School System will now be offering preschool developmental screenings for current Vernon resident children ages 2.9 months to 4.5 months, to ensure all children receive appropriate services and supports prior to entering Kindergarten. 

The screening activities are designed to observe and assess a child’s development in problem-solving and thinking skills as demonstrated in play, language and communication, social interaction and adaptive behavior and fine/gross motor skills and abilities. During the 1-hour screening session, the preschool team will interact with and observe each child in a variety of activities. Following the student activities, families will receive feedback in the mail or a phone call from a team member.

Thursday, October 5, 2023    12:30 – 2:30 PM    Center Road School       No PM Preschool 
Friday, December 15, 2023    12:30 – 2:30 PM     Skinner Road School    No PM Preschool
Thursday, February 15, 2024    9:00 – 11:00 AM    Northeast School       No AM Preschool
Thursday, April 4, 2024    9:00-11:00 AM    Center Road School                No AM Preschool

* AM or PM programming for current preschool students will NOT meet on these dates*

Parents who wish to have their child participate in a screening must call 860-896-4671 at the Vernon Board of Education to register their child for the screening.  Children will be assigned a screening date and time based on their age and space availability.
