Discovery Program

May 8, 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians of Grades K-5 Students,

The Vernon Public Schools are once again offering all students the opportunity to attend summer enrichment classes at Center Road School. The Discovery Program is an enrichment program that runs throughout the month of July. The classes are held four days a week (Tuesday – Friday) from 8:30-11:30 at Center Road School (due to the 4th of July holiday, Week 1 is only 3 days). These classes are designed and taught by certified teachers, and are intended to challenge students through hands-on learning and positive interactions. To insure a positive experience for all the students, we are keeping the class sizes very small so each child can receive individualized instruction from the teacher. The capacity for each class is only 12 students, and will be filled on a first come first serve basis, so please turn in your completed forms to your home school as quickly as possible. Students can sign-up for a single week or registrar for all four weeks. Registration forms are available either on-line or at your child’s school upon request.

The Discovery Program costs $50 per week, but rates lower if your child enrolls in multiple weeks (2 sessions - $90, 3 sessions - $130, 4 sessions - $150). Please note that since Week 1 is only three days, the reduced rate is $40 for the week. For students who qualify for a reduced rate, the cost is $25 per week ($20 during Week 1). The program includes transportation from various pick-up spots throughout Vernon (for a full list of bus stops please visit www.vernonpublicschools.org). A list of course offering can be found on-line (at the website listed above) or at your child’s school. Once you are on the website select District Programs, then select Elementary Summer School, and then select registration forms and brochures that you need. From there you will see the different selections for the Discovery Program based on the grade your child is currently in. If you don’t have access to the internet, you can obtain paper copies from your child’s school. If you have any questions please contact Mike DeBellis at (860)870-6300.

We look forward to working with your child this summer!

Sincerely,

Michael DeBellis

Discovery Program Administrator
