Parent Letter

Dear Parents/Guardians of Grades K-8 Students,

The Vernon Public Schools are once again offering all students the opportunity to attend summer learning and enrichment classes at Center Road School. Although the Vernon Schools have been offering this program for several years, we have some exciting changes this year to the program that I would like to highlight.

1. The Summer Learning Program is now offered to all students in grades K-8th.

2. The program is running 5 weeks long, instead of only 4 (June 24th – July 25th).

3. The program runs four days a week (Monday – Thursday) from 8:00-11:30.

4. Students will be able to select two different courses to attend during the day.

5. Courses were selected and created based on the feedback we received from the parent survey.

6. The registration fee will cover all 5 weeks of the Vernon Summer Learning Program.

7. Transportation is available for all students at set locations around Vernon (please see Bus Routes for all the stops). In addition, we can drop off students at Valley Falls, YMCA, or Henry Park so students can participate in summer camps after our program is over.

As always, all of the classes are designed and taught by certified teachers, and are intended to challenge students through hands-on learning and positive interactions. To insure a positive experience for all the students, we are keeping the class sizes small so each child can receive individualized instruction from the teacher. Due to this, we will be filling classes on a first come first serve basis, so please turn in your completed forms to your home school as quickly as possible. Registration forms are available either on-line or at your child’s school upon request.

The Vernon Summer Learning Program costs $175 per child for all 5 weeks. A list of course offering can be found on-line (at the website listed above) or at your child’s school. Once you are on the website select District Programs, then select Vernon Summer Learning (K-8), and then select registration forms and brochures that you need. From there you will see the different selections for the Discovery Program based on the grade your child is currently in. If you don’t have access to the internet, you can obtain paper copies from your child’s school. If you have any questions please contact Mike DeBellis at michael.debellis@vernonct.org.

We look forward to working with your child this summer!

Sincerely,
Michael DeBellis
Vernon Summer Learning Program Administrator
