Vernon Public Schools climate and safety staff are responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for student, staff and visitors utilizing an all hazards approach and fostering positive interactions with students, staff and visitors to support the academic process.

The Vernon Public Schools Climate and Safety staff works closely with our local first responders, School Resource Officer, regional, state and federal agencies, Vernon Public Schools Facilities Department, Town of Vernon Department of Public Works, Town of Vernon Information Technology Department, as well as our district, and building level administration to develop and implement best practice emergency response procedures, conduct safety and security training for school staff, coordinate emergency response procedures with local police, fire and emergency medical services, and the selection, installation, and maintenance of intrusion detection, access control and closed circuit television systems.

Vernon Public Schools Climate and Safety staff receive comprehensive training in responding to and handling emergency situation and are all trained in First Aid, CPR, AED and Stop the Bleed.

Cory LaFountaine

Logistics and Safety Supervisor

Cory is the Logistics and Safety Supervisor for Vernon Public Schools as well as a Lieutenant for the Town of Vernon Fire Department. He has 15 years of experience working in the emergency services field including municipal, corporate, post-secondary education and retail environments. Cory is a certified instructor with the International Police Mountain Bike Association and is a certified Emergency Medical Technician and Firefighter. Cory lives locally with his Fiance' and three children and enjoys camping, mountain biking and spending time with his family.


Robert Lovett
School Climate Specialist

Northeast School

Rob Lovett, School Climate Specialist at Northeast Elementary School, has been with the Vernon School system for over four years. Prior to this, Rob had a successful twenty year career as a Correction Officer with the State of Connecticut, and also worked at Manchester High School as a Security Officer. He and his wife have lived in Vernon for 24 years and have two kids that have gone through Vernon’s school system. Rob has also coached in the Vernon little league and legion baseball programs. Rob enjoys working with students in the Vernon public school system and loves going to work every day to provide a safe and secure learning environment for the students and staff.

Phil Costanzo

On May 1, 2017 Phil retired from the Department of Correction after 23 years of service. During his career he worked at 2 facilities : Whalley Avenue New Haven , from 1994 – 2006, where he was a Correctional Officer, and then in 2000 was promoted to Correctional Lieutenant. In 2006 Phil was promoted to Correctional Captain at Manson Youth Institution in Cheshire where he stayed until I retired in 2017.

Phil is a new York Yankee Fan, Boston Celtics fan and a Washington Redskins fan and grew up in Cheshire, CT

In 2017 Phil also worked at Skinner Road School for a few months as a School Climate Specialist before transferring to RHS.

Jennifier Gray
School Climate Specialist

Rockville High School

Jennifier is a Sergeant First Class Military Police Officer in the CT Army National Guard and has been serving honorably for 19 years. During her career she served in Afghanistan, was a Military Police Officer Instructor and a Master Fitness Trainer. She is an avid motorcycle rider and loves to work out. She is a New York Rangers hockey fan. She currently resides in Vernon with her husband and three young children.

Luis is a life-long resident of Vernon and has volunteered for the Town of Vernon Fire Department for the past 23 years, serving as a junior firefighter, firefighter, and is currently the Captain of Rescue 441. Luis is also in charge of the Public Relations Division for the Fire Department and works on the Ambulance. Luis lives in Vernon with his wife and children
