Third Grade

Welcome to the wonderfully exciting world of 3rd grade! We are becoming creative and analytical thinkers. Members of Mrs. Guilmette’s and Mrs. Ekstowicz’s class are excited to be in the upper wing with lockers!

We are rocketing through addition with our fact fluency program: Rocket Math! Students started the year on Level A, and after consistently practicing each day, will hopefully progress to Level Z. Daily practice of math facts at home would reinforce our efforts.

We are introducing many genres of reading and writing. For example, students will recognize the difference between fiction and nonfiction and will be able to incorporate those ideas into their writing. Students will be reading books at their differentiated levels both independently and in their class groups.

In Science... Did you know that seeds do not need sunlight or soil to grow? Ask any student in Grade 3 and they will tell you what they learned!

Social Studies will include Current Events through our Scholastic News, learning facts about Connecticut, and research for a State Report.

Field Trips include: A play at the University of Hartford, a trip to the Belding Wildlife Center in Vernon to study habitats, and our infamous trip to the State Capital and the Old State House.
